Crowns
If your tooth is damaged, but not lost, a dental crown (or dental cap) can be used to cover the damaged part of your tooth. The crown is a protective covering that is bonded or cemented onto your tooth. It is custom made using ceramics, noble alloys, or a combination of both.
A crown may be recommended for a tooth that has a large filling, a root canal or a fracture. It will restore the tooth to a certain shape and size, and will provide strength and improve the appearance of the tooth.
Dental crowns provide a variety of benefits to the patient by:
- Protecting your damaged or weakened tooth from further damage
- Holding together cracked or weakened teeth
- Sealing the tooth from decay
- Improving the aesthetic appearance by covering discolouration and irregularities
- Supporting the replacement teeth in a bridge
- Restoring and maintaining your natural bite
- Covering dental implants, and
- Restoring your smile.
Crowns are quality restorations and are an excellent investment in your long-term dental health.
