Endodontics
Root canal treatment is a common prescription for abscessed teeth. Abscessed teeth have infected tissue (pulp) in the center. This causes pain and/or swelling. During root canal treatment, Dr. Williams removes the infected tissue. The space is then filled and the opening sealed. A crown may be placed to protect the tooth..
A tooth that has had a root canal treatment can last a lifetime!
Many people also have the mistaken notion that root canal treatment is painful. This is NOT SO! Dr. Williams can do many things to ensure you are comfortable during the procedure. During the treatment, the area around the tooth is frozen. Some patients may opt to use nitrous oxide, or listen to music to help them relax. If there is pain due to infection, the root canal treatment can be stopped and the treated tooth temporarily sealed. Antibiotics may be used to help control infection. In most cases you can’t see or feel any difference in a tooth that has had a root canal treatment.
Talk to Dr. Williams today if you have questions about root canal.
