EXAMS & CLEANINGS

Gentle Dental Care offers various types of cleanings.

  • Traditional Polishing: Removes very mild tarter and plaque from healthy teeth while checking the health of your gums.
  • Deep Cleaning: Removes heavier plaque and tartar that have become calculus on the teeth and below the gum line. This helps to prevent further gum loss caused by gum disease.
  • Cavitron: Uses vibration and water jet to break up mild/heavy tartar/calculus plaque.
  • Prophy Jet: This is a process using water that can help reduce some mild surface staining. This is NOT used to whiten teeth.

At Gentle Dental Care, we believe regular exams help to detect decay and other serious oral issues so they can be addressed and treated quickly.

  • Dr. Williams uses digital x-rays check for abscesses, decay, tooth growth and other tooth damage.
  • Bone loss is determined by measuring gum pockets. Bone loss can mean that a patient has periodontal disease.

Sealants are also offered. Sealants are a layer of clear material that is painted onto the chewing surfaces of back teeth to help prevent cavities.

CROWN & BRIDGE

Gentle Dental Care offers crowns. A Crown is created in two parts. The tooth is shaped and prepped for the crown and a temporary crown is made and placed at the first visit. About two weeks later the temporary crown is replaced by the permanent crown using a permanent cement. If the crown of your tooth becomes weakened by decay or fractures, it can be restored and strengthened by an artificial crown. Artificial crowns are covers which fit over a damaged or badly stained tooth. They look natural and require only the same care necessary for your natural crowns.

A bridge is an artificial tooth used to replace one that is missing. It is attached to your neighboring teeth. One of the benefits of using a bridge to replace a missing tooth (or teeth) is how natural it looks and feels. With proper care, bridges can last for years. See Dr. Williams today if you would like to “bridge the gap” in your smile!

The teeth on either side of the missing tooth/teeth are shaped and prepped as the secure connections on the bridge. An impression is taken. The bridge has a crown on either end connected by the replacement tooth/teeth. The bridge is placed by cementing the crown onto the prepped teeth. This is usally done in 2 visits.

SEDATION DENTISTRY

Gentle Dental Care offers sedation dentistry to patients, to allow the treating of people with dental phobias and anxieties. Knowing that many patients are apprehensive about receiving dental care encourages us to make each patient feel as comfortable and relaxed as possible while receiving care.

We realize listening to your concerns and explaining what is going to happen before starting any procedure and discussing different methods for making you as comfortable as possible is important to you!

The two different types of or sedation offered at Gentle Dental Care are oral sedation in the format of a pill, and nitrous oxide (laughing gas).

Conscious/Oral Sedation

  • A pill is dispensed to the patient in the office about an hour before a procedure
  • You are relaxed in a drowsy state but still awake
  • This is generally suggested for patients with high anxiety
  • You will need someone to drive you to and from your appointment
  • You are monitored by the doctor and staff

Nitrous Oxide/Gas

  • You breathe in the gas through a mask
  • It helps you relax while remaining fully awake
  • This is typically suggested when a patient is a little more nervous than the average patient
  • A driver is not required for the patient

ROOT CANAL THERAPY

Modern "root canal treatment" can almost immediately eliminate the pain of even a severe toothache and save a tooth which would otherwise need to be extracted. As with all treatment that Dr. Kevin Williams provides here at Gentle Dental Care, we will ensure your complete comfort and understanding. A root canal is nothing to be worried about, it is however extremely important in the saving of your tooth!

  • A topical numbing gel is applied to numb the area around the tooth prior to the anesthetic being injected
  • Anesthetic is injected in the area around the tooth to ensure the patients comfort during the procedure
  • Once the patient is completely numb, a hole is drilled into the tooth and decay is removed if any
  • The pulp inside of the tooth is removed
  • the pulp is replaced with a permanent material

  • Tooth color filling material is used to repair the hole in the tooth
  • Typically a crown is used to protect the tooth from cracking or breaking

To prevent any possible infection from returning shortly after the procedure, an antibiotic along with a pain medication is prescribed to the patient.

DENTAL IMPLANTS

Dental implants are designed to provide a secure foundation for replacement teeth that look, feel and function like natural teeth. If you are among the many Americans who suffer from permanent tooth loss, you can eliminate the problems and discomfort caused by poorly fitting dentures or missing teeth. You can begin to discover the joy of eating healthy, speaking clearly, feeling confident and laughing comfortably! With dental implants, you can rediscover the comfort and confidence to enjoy your life. Dental implants are designed to provide you with a natural looking and functioning smile.

Did you know that even the loss of one tooth might result in the tipping, drifting and erupting of neighboring and opposing teeth? The loss of several teeth can result in the inability to chew and speak effectively. It can also lead to the collapse of your bite causing stress on your jaw joints and facial muscles. There may be a reduction in the vertical dimension of your face resulting in an older facial appearance and noticeable facial lines.

At Gentle Dental care, Dr. Williams and our team of dental professionals consider all these factors when determining how best to achieve dental aesthetics that are in harmony with your physiology.

  • The implant post is secured into the bone
  • The abutment is placed in the implant
  • A crown is attached to the abutment

It can be cared for and treated like a natural tooth!

MOUTHGUARDS

Sports Mouthguards

Mouthguards are for recreational, professional or competitive sports and should be worn in practice, as well as games. Without a mouth guard, you risk chipping, breaking or even losing teeth! Dr. Williams offers the highest level of protection for you or your child through the most professional program of mouth guard protection. Mouthguards are much safer than over the counter, or boil and bite store purchased mouthguards. Our team is capable of customizing a protection system for you or your child that is second to none!

Night Guards

A night guard may be recommended by Dr. Kevin Williams for patients that grind their teeth at night. It creates a protective barrier between surfaces of the teeth to prevent the wearing down of the tooth and the enamel.

Grinding your teeth while you sleep can cause teeth to fracture, pain, jaw pain and other serious issues.

Dr. Kevin Williams provides a high quality night guard made from an impression of your teeth taken in our office and sent to the lab for a precise and perfect fit!

CHILDREN'S DENTISTRY

Gentle Dental Care can care for children 3 years and up providing cleanings, fillings, orthodontics and other services. Treatment is suggested while keeping the child's age into consideration.

Dr. Kevin Williams knows that children have reservations about seeing the dentist. He and our staff go out of our way to make children feel comfortable and even have a little fun during their visit!

Parents can help ease children's fears before the very first appointment with these helpful hints!

  • If your child is coming to see us for their "first filling", you should not prepare them by telling them what to expect. Most young children have no fear of the dentist or of having a filling. Don't try to prepare your child. You may inadvertently pass your own fears to your child.
  • Don't discuss the appointment until the evening before and then simply tell your child that "tomorrow the dentist is going to fix that problem with your tooth". If your child asks questions, simply let them know how easy it will be at the dentist.
  • Schedule the child's appointment early in the day, when they are well rested. When your child arrives for the appointment, it will be explained to them what is happening in terms a child can understand.

The large majorities of children do great and do not shed a single tear.

PORCELAIN VENEERS

Gentle Dental Care offers our patients porcelain veneers, an excellent way to redesign and reshape your entire smile. Veneers are a very thin ceramic shell that covers your existing tooth structure, fixing issues such as staining, cracked teeth, spaces, misaligned teeth, chipped teeth and many other issues.

This process takes approximately two visits:

  • This first requires discussion on what will be accomplished by placing the veneers and then carefully preparing the teeth for the placement of the new veneers.
  • Then, an impression of the newly prepared teeth is taken which is sent to our laboratory of the highest standard for the final veneers to be fabricated which takes two weeks.

While your new veneers are being fabricated at the lab, a beautiful temporary solution is made for you.

As the veneers are finalized, we will make every effort to make sure that your new veneers will feel just like your natural teeth. We will bond them into place ensuring that you can enjoy your new smile for a very long time!

If you have any questions about porcelain veneers, please speak with one of our Gentle Dental Care team members today.

EARLY ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT

Orthodontic treatment can have great benefits for children when started early, 75% of 12-year-olds need orthodontic treatment, yet 90% of a child's face has already developed! All of these symptoms can be alleviated using functional appliances and can be done before adult teeth are present!

  • Mouth breathing can cause problems such as lack of oxygen leading to poor sleep, daytime fatigue, headaches, and the inability to properly concentrate in school. In addition, mouth breathing can cause narrow arches causing more narrow smiles that may lead to lower self esteem.
  • Narrow jaws can also cause problems with speech development for growing children and crowding of teeth later in life.
  • Chronic pain in the jaw, clicking in the jaw, headaches, stiffness, neck pain, dizziness, fainting and difficulty opening the jaw can all be contributed to deep overbites or receding lower jaw.
  • Deep overbites and receding lower jaws can also be the culprits of earaches and ringing in the ears.

Children between the ages of 8 and 11 are much more cooperative than children between the ages of 12 and 14. This can also mean shorter treatment time.

The Gentle Dental Care team is proud to offer Invisible Braces. Instead of using unsightly metal bands and brackets, the Invisible Braces employs a series of clear plastic "aligners".

These clear plastic aligners are worn for about two weeks at a time until the desired tooth movement has occurred, at which time the patient utilizes the next fitted aligner. This is continued until the teeth are in the correct position. The main advantage is straight teeth without the need for metal bands or brackets. In fact, it's very hard to tell if someone is wearing these clear "braces" at all!

If you have any questions about Invisible Braces, please speak with Dr. Kevin Williams or one of the Gentle Dental Care team members today. Invisible Braces is a great way to invisibly align your teeth to get you the straight, beautiful smile you deserve!

INVISIBLE BRACES

Traditional braces have been around for many years. They are the standard among patients looking to straighten their smile.

Today’s contemporary braces are made of exceptionally strong metals as they need to be able to stand the test of time while they are on your teeth. While contemporary braces are metallic colored, there are a number of bands and features that can be utilized to spruce them up.

If you have any questions about braces or any other type of orthodontic care, please feel free to speak with Dr. Williams or any of our Gentle Dental Care team members today.
